Design pro Andre Mills illustrates graphics’ power to persuade

Sometimes, words aren’t enough. An often-overlooked component in raising awareness —and the personality profile— of your business and brand is through memorable graphic design.

The Communicators Club will narrow that knowledge gap with our October speaker: Professional graphic designer, illustrator and caricaturist Andre K. Mills.

A regular attendee of TCC programs, Andre is eager to educate guests about the power of graphics in a virtual presentation set for Noon to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The $10 program fee includes networking opportunities, and the chance to promote your business before the main discussion begins.

Andre, a Jamaica native who majored in Art at the University of Lowell (now UMass Lowell), plans to address the following areas of interest:

  • Defining graphic design;
  • Detailing how it’s best used to convey ideas and concepts in the enterprise;
  • Describing the impact strong visual communication can have on people, businesses and the world-at-large.

The usual question-and-answer session follows his talk, which will take place via Zoom videoconference. (Guests will receive the meeting link upon registration confirmation.)

Andre, who has served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was inspired to pursue his vocation by illustrators and comics artists such as Bill Watterson, Charles M. Shulz, Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos.

Describing his motivation, Andre says “I like to take in my surroundings and see what story I can tell, or see what reaction I get.” He receives uniformly positive reactions from clients, judging by the glowing testimonials on his website at akmgraphics.com.

Andre’s Lowell-based digital services include logo, website and animation creation; he also draws caricatures and portraits, and commissioned work that includes T-shirt and book illustrations.

“Calvin and Hobbes” creator Watterson, one of Andre’s heroes, once observed that “we’re so busy watching out for what’s just ahead of us that we don’t take time to enjoy where we are.” We hope to find you online with us on Oct. 6 for an educational look at the added dimensions graphic design can bring to your business.
