DelMastro offers primer on avoiding cyberattacks

One of the most important New Year’s resolutions your firm can pursue is to get smarter about cybersecurity in 2022. The Communicators Club will help our guests check that box by hosting IT expert Rob M. DelMastro, Senior Business Advisor at the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network at Clark University.

Cyber threats target companies of all sizes. Rob will teach our guests how to protect themselves in a virtual program titled, “How to Avoid Being a Victim of a Cyberattack” in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Business owners are responsible for understanding where their organization is exposed to cyber threats, and to know how to protect their assets from them.

Rob will discuss the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, a guideline in which internal and external stakeholders of organizations can manage and reduce cybersecurity risk. It lists organization-specific and customizable activities associated with managing cybersecurity risk, and is based on existing standards, guidelines and practices.

Rob will cover some of the hot topics in cybersecurity, including:

  • Passwords
  • Hardware options
  • Phishing
  • Data encryption
  • Ransomware
  • Tech scams

The event will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. via Zoom. The fee is $10 and includes a Q&A session after the presentation.

Rob joined the MSBDC in January 2021 as a Senior Business Advisor. Through much of his career, he has focused on starting and running businesses. His experience has spanned such industries as technology, insurance, consulting and co-working.

Rob brings a strong understanding of the highs and lows of running a business to his position. He truly enjoys working with entrepreneurs to help them through the many challenges they will face while running their own business.
